Round Up – Pinterest

 

Over the past few months there has been a lot of hype over one of the newest social media sites on the scene, Pinterest.
In case you haven’t yet heard of Pinterest, the site essentially is a virtual pin board that lets you easily share things of interest on the internet. Since its launch in March 2010, Pinterest has shot to the forefront of social media with traffic increasing by 50% m/m in February 2012 and recently became the third most popular social networking site in the US behind Facebook and Twitter. The site, which is currently at invitation only stage, attracts 1.36 million users a day each spending on average 15 minutes on the site.

Pinterest Stats:

  • Audience is female skewed (87%) aged 25 – 54 (80%) and earn and annual income of $25,000 – $74,999 (70%)
  • 26.4% of traffic to the site is directed from Facebook
  • 80% of pins on site are re-pins, compared to Twitter which has 1.4% of Tweets as re-tweets
  • Australia is amongst the top 10 countries hooked on Pinterest
